Purchase intent just reached its highest point since Q4 2025. More than half of in-market shoppers say they're more likely to buy during the holidays, and 57% have been saving all year for a year-end deal. And 59% say they'll walk away if the APR lands above a number they've already picked.
The Q4 2026 Quarterly Consumer Intent Survey from C-4 Analytics surveyed more than 1,000 in-market car shoppers nationwide, trended against Q2 2026, with two supplemental studies on affordability and trade-in. The buyer it found has money set aside, a firm financing ceiling and specific standards for a used vehicle. Dealers who make the value clear early in the quarter have the advantage. Dealers who hold their best offer for Black Friday weekend are playing to a quarter of the market.
Yes. In the C-4 Analytics Q4 2026 QCIS, 54% of in-market shoppers say they're more likely to buy during the holiday period, and 57% save throughout the year for year-end deals. Nearly two-thirds say holiday promotions can influence their purchase decision.

Price and value. For 38% of buyers, a lower purchase price is why they're considering used, and another 16% see used as a way into a higher trim level. Total cost of ownership is the most important financial consideration for 30% of shoppers.
The Quarterly Consumer Intent Survey is proprietary research from C-4 Analytics, now in its sixth year. Each quarter we survey more than a thousand in-market car shoppers nationwide on purchase intent, vehicle and brand preference, dealership selection and the forces shaping buyer behavior. The questions stay consistent quarter over quarter, so the movement we report is real movement and not survey noise.
